La presentación del último trabajo de
este artista colombiano tendrá lugar el martes 30 de enero, en Londres, en una
exhibición individual donde muestra, por primera vez, su nueva serie de
esculturas.
Su
trabajo estará expuesto entre el 31 de enero al 8 de febrero permitiendo
ahondar en la visión de Castañeda y de su arte basado en serigrafías y piezas
realizadas con panela y oro.
Es precisamente la panela, un elemento
muy común usado en la alimentación básica nativa de los países
latinoamericanos, lo que el artista convierte en un recurso para la
construcción de sus piezas.
La panela – resultante del primer
prensado de la caña de azúcar pura – es empleada por Castañeda para dar
forma a sus piezas y colecciones, a través de las cuales habla de temas como la
historia de los pueblos, historias personales o enfrentamientos bélicos
actuales y pasados.
En “The Golden One”, la panela
representa el significado que históricamente tenían el azúcar y el oro de
Europa.
La comparación y contraste entre la panela y el oro,
ambos objetos dónde confluyen valores extremos, se convierte en uno de los
puntos atractivos de esta nueva colección.
Omar Castañeda mediante exploraciones
visuales y conceptuales tiene el afán de engrandecer el producto e
identificarlo dentro del contexto histórico: el significado y la utilización de
estos dos materiales en las culturas Latinoamericana y Europea, así como su
relación pasada y actual.
La sutilidad de Omar Castañeda se hace visible a la
hora de realizar una crítica al sistema global y de consumo de las grandes
marcas, que según la visión del artista, han llegado a pervertir la comida
convirtiéndola en un producto de marca.
Omar Castañeda reside en el Reino Unido
desde hace más de diez años, e hizo su Master en Fine Arts, en el Art College
de Londres.
La inauguración de “The
Golden One Art Show” tendrá lugar el martes 30 en el Consulado General de
Colombia, a las 6:30 PM. Los asistentes podrán degustar de una bebida típica
colombiana hecha a base de panela: la aguadepanela.
La exhibición estará abierta del 31 de
enero al 8 de febrero, entre 9:00 AM y 1:30 PM. El sábado 8 de febrero, de
9:00 AM 1 PM.

Omar Castañeda and “The Golden One Art Show”
The exhibition of the latest work by the Colombian
artist will take place in London on Tuesday 30thJanuary, in a solo
exhibition that will show his new series of sculptures for the first time.

Castañeda’s work will be on display from
the 31st of January until the 8th of February
allowing a depth to his vision and his body of work, which is based on prints
and pieces made with brown sugar and gold.
Panela (brown sugar) is a common ingredient used as a
native staple food in Latin American countries, which the artist uses as a
material to construct his works.
Panela – sugar from the first pressing
of pure cane sugar – is used by Castaneda to shape his pieces and collections,
through which he covers subjects including the history of groups of people, his
personal story, or current and past military conflicts and past.
In “The Golden One“, the panela
represents the meaning that sugar and gold had in Europe, historically.
The comparison and contrast between the panela and the
gold – both objects with highly variable value – become one of the attractive
points of this new collection.
Through visual and conceptual
explorations, Omar Castañeda shows his desire to enlarge the product and
identify it within an historical context, showing the meaning and use of these
two materials in American and European cultures, and also reflecting their past
and present relationship.
The subtlety of Omar Castañeda becomes apparent when
he is making a critique of globalisation and large consumer brands, which
according to the artist’s vision, pervert food by making it a branded product.
Omar Castañeda has been living in the UK
for over ten years, and did his Masters in Fine Arts, London Art College.
“The Golden One Art Show” will
open on Tuesday the 30th of January at the Consulate General of
Colombia, at 6:30pm. Guests will get to taste a typical Colombian beverage made
from sugar cane:aguadepanela.
The exhibition will be open to the public from the 31stof
January until the 8th of February, between 9am and 1:30pm (9am
to 1pm on Saturday 8th of February).
