Con este lema arranca
la cuarta entrega del Festival anual Internacional de Poesía Grito de Mujer,
que se desarrolla en marzo en una treintena de países.

Convocado por el Movimiento Mujeres
Poetas Internacional, este festival “Grito de Mujer” es una cadena simultánea
de eventos para homenajear a la Mujer a través de la poesía y el arte.
Tiene como objetivo servir de plataforma
para dar a conocer a poetas con talento que colaboran con la causa y conmemorar
el rol de la mujer en la sociedad, con mensajes de respeto, autoestima y no
violencia.
La iniciativa surgida en 2011 en
República Dominicana, se ha extendido a más de una treintena de países que
suman sus voces con el fin social de combatir la violencia contra la mujer.
El Festival Internacional Grito de
Mujer, es una iniciativa sin ánimo de lucro, creada por la escritora dominicana
Jael Uribe.
Se realiza contando
con la colaboración de colaboradores y miembros de distintos grupos y
asociaciones e instituciones culturales a nivel internacional públicas y
privadas, en países como República Dominicana, Puerto Rico, USA, Canadá, España
Argentina, México, Colombia, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Perú,
Honduras, Haití, Panamá, Bolivia, Chile, Portugal, Francia, Alemania, UK,
Rusia, Grecia, Italia, Israel, Marruecos, Australia, Bosnia- Herzegovina,
Tanzania, Zimbabue, Nigeria, Ghana, Angola, entre otros.
Este festival rinde homenaje cada
edición a la poesía y a la Mujer bajo un lema que unifique el “Grito de Mujer”
en todos los países participantes. El lema elegido para este año es “Somos
Heroínas”.
En 2011, primera edición del festival,
la mujer homenajeada fue la poeta mexicana Susana Chávez. En 2013, “Grito
de Mujer” se celebró en honor de la pakistaní Malala Youfsuzai.
Este año 2014, no se elegirá una mujer
específica, siendo muchas las mujeres a las que se dedicará este festival de
poesía por parte de cada participante o país.
En Guatemala, por ejemplo, el recital
que forma parte de los eventos del festival, se dedicará a la periodista
guatemalteca Irma Flaquer por ser ‘la mujer que murió por alzar su voz”.
En República
Dominicana, el “grito” se dedicará a Julia de Burgos y en Mexico, las
protagonistas serán las heroínas de la patria.
Con una fuerte presencia en redes
sociales y reconocimiento a nivel internacional, el festival ha ido aumentando
el número de eventos y localizaciones donde se desarrolla, extendiendo
fronteras a lo largo de sus ediciones.
En 2011, participaron 17 países y se
celebraron un total de 44 eventos en Europa, EU y Latinoamérica. El pasado 2013
fueron más de 100 los eventos, y para esta edición de 2014, se unen más países
a favor de esta causa.

This slogan kicks off the fourth instalment of the annual International
Poetry Festival ‘Woman’s Scream’ that will take place in March in some thirty
countries.

Organised by the Women Poets International Movement, this festival Woman’s
Scream is a simultaneous chain of events to pay tribute to women by
means of poetry and art.
It aims to act
as a platform to publicize talented poets who are collaborating with the cause
and to commemorate the role of women in society, with messages of respect, self
esteem and anti-violence.
The initiative
arose in 2011 in the Dominican Republic, and has spread to over thirty
countries, which join forces with the social goal of putting a stop to violence
against women.
The Woman’s
Scream International Festival is a non-profit initiative, created by the
Dominican writer Jael Uribe. It relies on help from contributors and members of
different groups and cultural associations and institutions – both public and
private – on an international level.
The festival is celebrated in countries including the Dominican Republic,
Puerto Rico, USA, Canada, Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Costa
Rica, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Peru, Honduras, Haiti, Panama, Bolivia, Chile,
Portugal, France, Germany, UK, Russia, Greece, Italy, Israel, Morocco,
Australia, Bosnia- Herzegovina, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana and Angola,
amongst others.
Each year this festival pays homage to poetry and to women under a slogan
that unites the Woman’s Scream in all participating countries. The chosen
slogan for this year is We are Heroines.
In 2011, the
first year of the festival, the woman honoured was the Mexican poet Susana
Chávez. In 2013, Woman’s Scream was celebrated in honour of the Pakistani
Malala Youfsuzai.
This year, 2014,
a specific woman is not being chosen, instead the poetry festival will be
dedicated to many women on behalf of each participant or country.
In Guatemala,
for example, the recital that forms part of the festival’s events will be
dedicated to the Guatemalan journalist Irma Flaquer for being ’the woman who
died for raising her voice’.
In the Dominican Republic, the ’Scream’ will be dedicated to Julia de
Burgos, and in Mexico, the protagonists will be the heroines of the motherland.
With a strong
presence on social networks and with international recognition, the festival
has been growing in terms of the number of events and areas where it will take
place, extending its boundaries throughout the years.
In 2011, 17
countries took part and a total of 44 events were celebrated in Europe, USA and
Latin America. Last year there were more than 100 events, and for this year’s
festival even more countries are coming together to support the cause.
